About Florine.

I’m a watercolor artist living in St. Louis, Missouri. My career has evolved from a childhood dream to a reality. My earliest childhood memories of drawing and painting includes many animals and people as some of my favorite subjects.

I have a non-photographic and impressionist style that invites the viewer to become part of the scene and add their own experience to complete the work. My paintings cross the line between realism and abstraction, contemporary to traditional to meet the needs of the broad interests of my clients but possesses a recognizable quality of line, color and style. I have always been drawn to Impressionism, the strength of its design, being less realistic, pulling and inviting the viewer to be part of the painting and making it their own. Many times I paint from reference photographs and memories using color to express the essence of a location or person. Studying artists such as Monet and Klee, I experiment with new techniques and styles and incorporate them into my work.

Often I draw inspiration from locations that I visit incorporating the people, culture and landscapes into my paintings. Being sensitive to the light and beauty in each new city and place, I use composition and color to communicate the emotion and feeling of a location.

Art is about connecting people’s emotion and I love the process of creating, using art to communicate, sharing a meaningful experience. All of us carry memories of the places we have been and of people we have met. My work turns those memories into a visual reminder of those pleasant times. My paintings capture favorite moments and parts of the world. They act as a record of travel discoveries and moments that shouldn’t be forgotten.
